Until Next Year, Halloween

HAPPY (late) HALLOWEEN!

Yes, i know, I'm late. Oh well. No biggie.

As you can see, this is one holiday that matters, to me, a lot. Its such at great time of the year, leaves on the ground, that golden brown color that you see every which way you turn, its beautiful. What better to go with that beauty than costumes, candy, and HORROR.

Every year I do at least 1 thing, watch John Carpenter's "Halloween". Yeah, the OLD ONE, not the NEW ONE that is completely ridiculous in so many ways, such an embarrassment (obviously you see my opinion on the remake...) My day is not the same without it and if i happen to miss it, it causes mayhem for me. It is the epitome of what Halloween stands for, in my mind anyway. Its called tradition, and its glorious.

There are some other great things to watch on this magical day of the year, one being "The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown". YES! Charlie Brown is CLASSIC for most holidays, like Thanksgiving & Christmas, but especially Halloween. I did get a chance to watch this as well but it was a couple days earlier so I didn't get the same effect but still fantastic homage to my younger years.

This past year was the first time for a particularly special film for the boyfriend. I trust his instincts on most media things, not all, but most. With this film he was right on the nose, "Witches Night Out". If you haven't had the chance, WATCH. It is particularly rare, (i watched on VHS!) so if you by chance find it, pick it up, its more than worth it. It surrounds a couple kids and their babysitter on Halloween. Pretty normal, right? Well you haven't SEEN these people, they are cartoon blob things, not much thought gone into their creation, but none the less, still amazing. Then of course there is a Witch, not shocking based on that title and all. But she is a BIT on the insane side, plus there are the weird kids who are, you guessed it, weird. But in the end the kids all turn into their costumes and reak havoc until they realize they are stuck this way and start crying. All in all, great Halloween goodness.

If you've read any of my blogs you will see a huge trend dealing with anything Joss Whedon, he's basically my hero. So i could not possibly leave out the amazing Halloween themed episodes of the wonderful show, Buffy The Vampire Slayer. I did get a chance to watch a few this year, like i would skip them, and also a treat on the Friday before, 10/30, when me and the boyfriend drove up to Indianapolis to watch actors dance and sing a long to the Musial episode, Once More With Feeling, (Best Halloween EVER). More about that later...Back to the episodes. We had a chance to go back to the wonderful season 4, episode 4, "Fear Itself". Great Halloween spirit, fears coming to life, frat parties going haywire, and a mini demon whining, brilliant. As they wonder through the charmed frat house with no escape in sight, they fight, bicker, disappear, talk to dead people, eat flying, glowing dots, and almost turn into a werewolf, but not quite. Who is doing this to our gang? Why a mini-monster named Gachnar. By the end, we have a smooshed fear demon and a scary bunny Anya, oh and candy.

Next Buffy Halloween extravaganza was "Halloween", perfect title. In this creepy tale we have have the gang dressing up to take out little kids trick or treating, as they are forced to by Snyder, the principal. We see Ethan Rayne the first time as he convinces Buffy to buy a 1700's style dress for her costume, to, of course, impress Angel. (Those were the days, yuck spike, sorry...) We have Xander, the Military Man, Cordelia the cat-person, and Willow the skank/ghost. In another story of costumes becoming real, always fun, we end up with a whimpering brunette Buffy, a Xander soldier, normal ole' Cordelia, and a ghostly skank willow. By the finish, bad ass Buffy returns to kick spikes bottom, regular Xander, and a missing Willow, who turns out to see dressing like a skank isn't so bad. Which later comes in handy to impress the awesome, Oz.

Can't wait until next year. More horror, More candy, More fun. See you then!
